In 2024, Japanese households, including workers' and non-workers' households, spent on average about 12 thousand Japanese yen per month on eating out. This marked an increase in the annual average of monthly expenditures of households on eating out for the third year since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that led many restaurants to either close earlier in the day or even shut down business temporarily.
