Most ODI hundreds by player 2025
As of March 2025, Virat Kohli ranked first for the most centuries scored in men's One Day International cricket, with 51 ODI tons to his name. Kohli's record-breaking 50th ODI century came during the semi-final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup against New Zealand, with second-placed Sachin Tendulkar watching in the crowd. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, who came second in the ranking, recorded 49 ODI centuries during a career spanning 1989 to 2012, in which time he scored over 18 thousand ODI runs and earned the mantle of all-time leading ODI run-scorer.
The Indian Premier League
One of the biggest and most lucrative domestic tournaments in the world is the Indian Premier League (IPL). Started in 2008, the league consists of 10 teams split into two groups of five, with the Kolkata Knight Riders winning the most recent season in 2024, claiming a third IPL title. In 2024, the value of the Indian Premier League amounted to around 12 billion U.S. dollars. This value has shown a consistent increase over the past decade, despite a short-term decline in 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on major sporting fixtures and competitions. In the case of the IPL, this resulted in a four-month delay and a temporary relocation to Dubai.
ODI rankings and records
One of the biggest criticisms of traditional test match cricket is the length of time that is required to complete a game. ODIs, on the other hand, allow cricket tournaments to take place in a way that can be much more accessible for spectators and, as such, have become extremely popular on the international stage. The ICC regularly releases a points-based ranking system for international cricketers based on their most recent performances for their countries. As of March 2025, India's Shubman Gill sat at the top of the rankings for ODI batsmen. In a similar ranking of ODI bowlers, an Indian player also claimed the number one spot, with Jasprit Bumrah having earned a total of 908 points in the same period. In the same period, India came out on top in the ICC’s ranking of international teams as of March 2025, having claimed glory at the ICC Champions trophy in the same month.
