U.S. feedlots have several ways in which they administer antimicrobial additives to cattle. Administering antimicrobials in water is an effective way to ensure all cattle are treated. As of 2016, approximately 0.7 percent of cattle were treated for respiratory diseases with antimicrobials in their water. At that time a further 0.1 percent of cattle were treated for diarrhea using antimicrobials in water on U.S. feedlots.
