Installed base of Tikkie in the Netherlands 2018-2019, by age group
P2P payment app Tikkie saw an increase of installations on Dutch smartphones between 2018 and 2019. The installed base increased the most for consumers between 30 and 39 years old: from 13 percent in the second quarter of 2018 to 30 percent one year later. Almost one third of all 20-to-29-year-olds had the Tikkie app on their smartphone.
Tikkie is an app that was launched by Dutch bank ABN AMRO in June 2016 and uses both WhatsApp as well as iDEAL, an inter-bank system local to the Netherlands. Consumers send a payment request (processed via iDEAL) via a text message in WhatsApp, for example if a group of friends purchased a birthday present together and money has to be paid back to the organizer. In 2019, the app had five million users in the Netherlands with 4,000 B2B users. Tikkie can be used by anybody in the Netherlands, not only clients from ABN AMRO.
