In 2023, around 51 percent of German travelers booked their vacation trip online, compared to 26 percent who used this same booking method in 2010. The trend is clear: online bookings are on the rise.
Plan ahead
Germans enjoy going away for a vacation, but for many, a large part of this enjoyment is also the planning phase of the trip. Typically plenty of time and effort is invested in research and decision-making before the actual bookings (travel tickets, accommodation, tours, any additional services or transport) take place, though the availability of online travel portals has certainly both simplified the process and offered consumers access to more choice. Most German vacationers booked a vacation package or a customized tour, as well as accommodation in advance.
Plan well
In 2022, German holidaymakers went on over 67 million vacation trips. Favorite vacation activities included spending time in nature, visiting cultural and historical attractions, and going on walks. A rising number of people in Germany were particularly interested in vacation and travel.
