Both the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) and the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) received their lowest share of the vote for over 60 years in the German Federal Elections of 2017, at just 20.5 percent and 26.8 percent respectively. The CDU vote share fell further in 2021, to 18.9 percent, with the SPD vote share increasing to 25.7 percent.
