In the years 1210 to 1212, a total of 5,334.40 pounds was spent on the hiring of knights' services, by English royalty and nobility. The counties with the highest amount of money spent on knights' fees were Yorkshire (which is also the largest county in England), Norfolk and Suffolk combined, and Devon. Taking into account the change in purchasing power of one British pounds to convert these figures into modern values, the above figure was equal to roughly 10 million pounds* in 2018.
