Largest public equity raisings for renewable energy in Europe by company 2019

Renewable energy technologies generate energy from resources naturally replenishable in a human time scale and thus, foster the transition towards decentralization of energy production and decarbonization. When a company is doing well but may not have the funds available for further growth, one option is to turn the company public. When a company offers its shares to the public for sale this is called an initial public offering (IPO) in a bid to generate funds for further developments, paying off debtors and creditors and looking more legitimate for further funds through banks and financers.

Scaling up renewables through public markets

In the last two decades the renewable energy market has been growing and is now showing signs of maturity. After an initial public offering on the on the Euronext Paris exchange in which the French developer Neoen raised 222 million U.S. dollars.

Renewable energy technologies in Europe

Wind energy, however, was the most attractive renewable energy sector in terms of new capacity investments in Europe in 2019. Together, wind offshore and wind onshore accounted for more than one third of the total European new capacity investments that year.
