In 2019, there were 232 major running sport events held in Zhejiang province, ranking first in China. For China as a total, 1,828 major running sport events took place in 300 cities in 2019. The term major running sport event refers to all road running events with more than 800 participants (including marathons) and all cross-country running events with more than 300 participants certified by the Chinese Athletics Association.
