In 2020, about 79 thousand households in South Italy and on the Islands received the Pensioners' Basic Income. In Central Italy, the basic income for pensioners was given to roughly 27 thousand households, the lowest number nationwide.
The Pensioners' Basic Income was launched in Italy in 2019 and was designed to reduce poverty in the country. Among others, the financial requirements to receive the basic income included having an annual indicator of the equivalized economic situation not above 9,360 euros.
