The Flemish Region of Belgium saw an increasing number of cybercrimes in the last decade. In 2009, nearly 4,000 cases were reported in the region, whereas, in 2022, there were over 32,900 cases.
Cybercrime is a term which refers to crimes committed via a computer system or an online network. Cyber criminality cases reported by the Flemish federal police cover crimes such as computerized forgery and fraud, hacking, and sabotage. Yet, in a broader view, other crimes can also be cybercrimes if virtually perpetrated.
