In the Open Era of professional tennis, which started in 1968, only three male Latin American tennis players made it to the Australian Open finals representing Latin American countries. In this period, the Argentine Guillermo Vilas was the only one to succeed, with two titles won and one runner-up. Marcelo Ríos and Fernando González, both of Chilean origin, also made it to the finals. Garbiñe Muguruza, born in Venezuela but representing Spain, reached the Australian Open women's final in 2020.
