In 2024, the German automaker Mercedes-Benz sold around 66 thousand cars in South Korea, a slight decrease from the previous year. Sales of Mercedes-Benz cars decreased in 2020 compared to the previous year, the first decrease since sales grew after the 1997 Asian financial crisis, commonly called the "IMF Crisis" in Korea. Mercedes-Benz first began sales in Korea in 1987, when they sold their first ten cars, and the brand is a status symbol in Korea and associated with affluence, luxury, and high social standing. Like other brands, sales nosedived in 1998 in the aftermath of the IMF Crisis.
