Of approximately 26.3 million registered automobiles in South Korea in 2024, over 12.4 million burned gasoline for fuel, while another 9.1 million had diesel engines. The number of environmentally friendly hybrid, electric, and hydrogen vehicles continued to increase, in part due to government initiatives pushing the development of charging infrastructure for such green vehicles. Additionally, ongoing environmental issues, such as the particulate matter coming from China and climate change, affected the way Koreans perceive environmental issues, stimulating greater interest in preserving the environment.
