According to a survey that was conducted by the Nippon Research Center in Japan in July 2024, 28 percent of the respondents liked Pokémon characters. The first Pokémon video games were released in 1996 for Nintendo's Game Boy handheld console. Pokémon's level of popularity was only rivaled by that of the Super Mario Brothers.
