As of March 2020, the GDP growth outlook for Indonesia was downgraded to 4.7 percent from an initial forecast of 5.3 percent. This was mainly due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, and the impact this has had on the global economy. As of March 12, Indonesia has reported 34 cases of COVID-19. The low number of cases detected had prompted questions on Indonesia's ability to detect and handle the virus outbreak.
