The coronavirus in Canada
The first coronavirus cases in Canada were reported in late January 2020. The number of new cases initially surged in March, but the country was gripped by a second wave in the fall and winter of 2020. The worst wave of cases to hit the country came towards the end of 2021 when the number of new daily cases hit an all-time high. Older adults are at greater risk of getting severely ill from the disease, but the distribution of cases in Canada shows that people in their 20s account for approximately 18 percent of cases.
