Global airline industry suffered a huge decline in capacity due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of March in 2020, the number of flight seats in the Chinese market dropped to around 8.4 million, just half the amount it was before the coronavirus crisis in January. During the week before March 30, 2020, approximately 20 million air travel seats were removed in global carriers.
