According to a 2022 survey on reading habits in China, 32.7 percent of the respondents listened to audiobooks. Compared to the survey results in 2019, audiobook penetration rate stood at 30.3 percent among respondents above 18 years old and 34.7 percent among underage users.

The survey covered 162 cities and towns in China, collected both from urban and rural areas.
The survey was conducted among
31,630 respondents aged 18 years and above, 10,826 respondents aged below 18 years.
32,564 urban residents, 9,892 rural residents.
