Despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the overnight stays of domestic tourists in Finland declined only by two percent in July 2020 and seven percent in August 2020 compared to 2019. In December 2020, there were nearly 700 thousand overnight stays recorded for domestic tourists, a decrease of 29 percent from the previous year. By comparison, the overnight stays of international tourists dropped by 92 percent from December 2019, amounting to 64 thousand overnight stays.
In 2021, the numbers dropped to the lowest point in the surveyed time period. In July 2021, 315 thousand overnight stays were made by Finns and 18 thousand by international tourists.
