According to a survey on the state of smoking during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, about 50 percent of tobacco and nicotine users in major metros of India engaged in meditation as a healthy coping mechanism. The Indian government announced a ban the sale of liquor, tobacco, and chewing tobacco or gutka on April 15, 2020 as a measure to slow the spread of COVID-19 during the lockdown.
