In 2022, the TV ratings for KBS fell slightly to around 22.3 percent. Viewership dropped across all three major terrestrial TV channels in South Korea since 2012. The launch of four generalist cable TV channels (JTBC, Channel A, TV Chosun, and MBN) in 2011 provided competition in terms of TV ratings, as well as the rise of alternative streaming services.
