In the second quarter of 2024, income sentiment of Chinese depositors had an index value of 46.6. In the years 2018 and 2019, the income of urban depositors had increased on average as the index value exceeded 50 percent in all quarters. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 had a strong negative impact on incomes.
Income sentiment index of urban depositors in China from 2nd quarter 2019 to 2nd quarter 2024
A diffusion index indicates urban depositors' income change in the observed quarter. The index is derived by calculating the proportions of respondents whose "income increased", "income remained the same", and "income decrease", assigning weights 1, 0.5, and 0 to them respectively. Finally, the average is value is calculated.
