Measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 took a big toll on Italy's economy. The real-estate market was affected as well, as this statistic shows. The total number of residential real estate transactions in the country, in fact, decreased by 15.5 percent during the first trimester of 2020 compared to the first trimester of 2019. When we look at differences between macro-regions, we see that the most-affected macro-region was the North-West, with a decrease in transactions of 16.5 percent. The South closely followed at 16.3 percent. The macro-region that experienced the smallest contraction was the North-East, with a decrease of 14 percent.
