
Passenger car sales in the European Union by fuel type 2024
Some 52.5 percent of new car registrations in the European Union (EU) were electrified to some degree in 2024. New registrations of battery electric vehicles decreased by around 5.9 percent to reach some 1.4 million units, while diesel and plug-in hybrid electric registrations also slumped. As of 2024, some 11.9 percent of newly registered passenger cars in the European Union were running on diesel, and 33.3 percent were fueled by petrol.
