Operating revenue of Canadian railroads 2013-2022
Over the period of seven years between 2013 and 2019, operating revenue on Canada’s rail network steadily increased at a compound annual rate of around 4.6 percent. Revenue dropped below the level recorded in 2019, during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 and 2021, when the sector recorded respectively around 16.1 and 16.5 billion Canadian dollars. Revenue grew to above 2019 levels to 18.9 million Canadian dollars in 2022.
