Passenger traffic of Aeroflot Group 2013-2023
Airlines in the Russian Aeroflot Group, the country's largest airline conglomerate, carried more than 47 million passengers on domestic and international flights in 2023. The group's airlines include Aeroflot, Pobeda, and Rossiya. Russian aircraft were prohibited from the airspace of several countries in response to the war in Ukraine that began in February 2022, which was reflected in the decrease in the figures in 2022.
Revenue growth and operational challenges
Despite facing ongoing geopolitical hurdles, the Aeroflot Group increased its revenue to more than 612 billion Russian rubles in 2023, representing a 48-percent jump from the previous year. This financial upturn came after a substantial earnings decline in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent travel bans.
Individual airline performance
Aeroflot, the flagship carrier of the group, transported approximately 25 million passengers in 2023, contributing significantly to the overall group figures. This performance indicates a recovery trend, though it remains below the peak of over 37 million passengers recorded in 2019. The group's financial health was further evidenced by its net profit in the third quarter of 2024, which reached around 21.6 billion Russian rubles, showcasing growth from the corresponding period of the previous year.
