Number of active social media users in Ghana 2017-2025

As of January 2025, Ghana registered 7.95 million social media users. This was an increase from 7.4 million in the preceding year. In December 2024, there was an estimated number of 10 million Facebook users in the country. This, however, did not exceed the share of WhatsApp users. Over the years, the use of social media in Ghana has followed a rising trend. 


Expanding internet usage

 
The number of internet users in Ghana reached a total of 24.3 million in January 2025. This represented a penetration rate of nearly 70 percent, meaning that more than half of the population had internet access. Consequently, revenues generated by internet access have been projected to exceed two billion U.S. dollars in the West African country, following an increasing trend. 


Mobile connections and subscriptions

 
There were 38.3 million mobile connections in Ghana in January 2025, most of which were pre-paid connections. In terms of mobile internet usage, an estimated 28 million users was registered for the same period. Similarly, in 2022, roughly 120 mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 inhabitants were counted in the country.
