Despite a worldwide electricity demand decline of 2.2 percent between 2019 and 2020, renewable electricity output grew by about 6.6 percent in the same time period. Excluding large hydropower, the share of renewables in energy generation has increased to over 13 percent. Meanwhile, demand for transportation fuels saw a significant decline in 2020 as a result of ongoing mobility restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
