Roughly 620.9 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum were transported by pipeline, rail, barge and tanker from PADD 4 (Rocky Mountains) in the United States in 2021. This was the peak outflow in the period of consideration, and an increase of over nine percent from the previous year. Up until 2020, the greatest volume transported was recorded from production hot spots in PADD 3 (Gulf Coast). However, in 2021, it was surpassed by the PADD 2 (Midwest). As with all other PADD's, pipelines are the main mode of transportation for PADD 4.
