In the first quarter of 2024, the female unemployment rate in Tunisia stood at 22 percent, exceeding that of men by around eight percentage points. Between 2017 and 2022, the share of unemployed women in the country remained substantially higher than that of men, peaking at 25 percent in the second quarter of 2020. In that period, the rise in unemployment followed the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak on the Tunisian job market.

The source specifies that, because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the collection of primary data has been disrupted. Therefore, data for the first quarter of 2021 were collected from basic survey data only. Only those data were deemed relevant in terms of quality and representative of the national situation.
Moreover, it adds that "It should be noted that field collection operations of
the national population and employment survey first quarter of 2022 were disrupted by a strike agents. Only data for the month of March and the beginning
January 2022 were collected. Therefore, the indicators for the first quarter of 2022 only reflect partially the situation of the labor market at the reference date."
