In 2023, the most popular apprenticeship in Germany was management assistant for office management, with around 22,638 signed apprenticeship contracts. In second place followed motor vehicle mechatronics technician, with around 22,539 new apprentices in 2023. Apprenticeships are a popular alternative to going to university in Germany, due to the dual education system, where apprentices learn on the job and receive professional training, as well as go to school and attend classes in general and specific education.
