In the third quarter of 2024, French households saved nearly 18 percent of their disposable income, which was a slightly higher rate than a year earlier. Between 2007 and 2019, the gross savings rate fluctuated mostly between 13 percent and 16 percent. However, in the second quarter of 2020, it soared to a value of 26 percent. Household savings in Ireland also increased significantly during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
