Electricity generation from petroleum Japan FY 2014-2023
In the fiscal year 2023, the electricity volume generated from petroleum in Japan amounted to approximately 71.6 terawatt hours. Figures were highest in fiscal year 2013, reaching over 156 terawatt hours, but decreased continuously in the following fiscal years.
To be more independent of fossil fuel imports and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and electric power costs, Japan currently aims to replace fossil fuels with nuclear and renewable energy sources.
