The industrial sector is the largest end user of electricity in Canada. In 2022, the industrial sector had an electricity demand of 240.5 terawatt-hours, accounting for almost 42 percent of the total demand that year. It was the only sector that had seen a demand decline since 2005. By comparison, Canadian households consumed some 181.5 terawatt-hours in 2021. Canada's total electricity demand amounted to 577.7 terawatt-hours that same year.
