More than 40 percent of French readers said they read more during the lockdowns put in place by the French government to fight the spread of the coronavirus in 2020. For them, reading became a way to pass the time and fight boredom. While the possibility of a third containment still hangs in the air, 85 percent of respondents think that, if it were to happen, bookstores should remain open while following a sanitary protocol.
