As of December 2024, there were 1,186 super supermarket (SSM) stores in South Korea. The number of SSM stores in the country has shown a slow decrease recently, but increased again in 2023. Represented by Lotte Supermarket, GS Supermarket, Emart Everyday, and Homeplus Express, super supermarkets (SSMs) were taking up about three percent of the total retailing sector.
