Number of riots recorded in Ghana 2017-2025
As of April 15, 2025, 54 new riot events were recorded in Ghana. In the previous year, 188 of such events were registered, which was the highest value within the period examined. The peak was largely due to economic hardships that have led to dozens of arrests in the Ghanian capital Accra.
Generally, riot-related events followed an upward trend in the country. This notwithstanding, Ghana achieved a score of 1.8 in the Global Peace Index in 2023, ranking in 51st position among 163 countries.
