Leading edtech platforms in Russia 2024, by revenue

Synergy had the highest revenue among edtech platforms in Russia, measuring at over 12.7 billion Russian rubles in 2024. It was followed by the Skillbox Holding, which includes brands like Skillbox, GeekBrains, and SkillFactory. Skyeng, including Skysmart and Skypro, which earned more than 12 billion Russian rubles, ranked third. 

How large is Russia’s online education market?

Russia’s e-learning market in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment was forecast to reach 60 billion Russian rubles in 2023, up from 38.5 billion Russian rubles in 2019. Among different levels, higher education was estimated to have the highest revenue at 15 billion Russian rubles in 2021, followed by supplementary vocational education.

E-learning during the lockdown in Russia

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has accelerated the e-learning development in Russia, as students were on distance education, and the population had more time for online education courses in self-isolation. Three out of ten Russians reported using online educational services during the lockdown. In the second quarter of 2020, 11 percent of Russians installed mobile education applications for children, and nine percent downloaded adult learning apps.
