Travel plans for Eid Indonesia 2025
A survey conducted in December 2024 found that 45 percent of respondents planned to go travel during the 2025 Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period in Indonesia. Visiting family and friends in hometowns and villages, or commonly known as mudik, is an important tradition during the Eid holidays in Indonesia.
Activities during Eid al-Fitr
Eid marks the end of Ramadan and the first day of Shawwal, which is the tenth month in the Islamic calendar. Eid al-Fitr is universally celebrated among Muslims around the world. Indonesian employees who celebrate Eid usually receive a Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR) or a bonus around this time. Apart from buying materialistic items using this allowance, Muslims are encouraged to donate a fraction of their wealth through the practice of zakat or giving alms. This was the leading area of spending during Ramadan among Indonesians.
Traveling during the season
Visiting friends, families, and relatives is also a huge part of the Eid agenda. Higher mobility and road traffic are often expected in certain areas, as most Indonesians usually start traveling for mudik a few days before Eid al-Fitr. Private vehicles are the most commonly used mode of transport for Eid travels.
