Leading fintech investment deals APAC 2023, by deal value

Chongqing Ant Consumer Finance is a consumer finance unit of Ant Group and received 1.5 billion U.S. dollar investment in 2023. An Indian fintech unicorn BharatPe was invested half a billion U.S. dollars in Series F in 2023.

 Funding rounds 

As new tech companies start out, they go through funding rounds to attract investments and ultimately launch an initial public offering (IPO). The first funding round to draw in outside investments is the seed round followed by early-stage series A and B. By the late-stage series C, and further, the companies become more established and can acquire other companies using the investments. In 2020, approximately ten percent of investment activity in fintech in the Asia Pacific region was merger and acquisition (M&A) activity.

Fintech investments in Asia Pacific

Fintech investments in the Asia Pacific region suffered a decline in 2020, reaching a six-year low. Venture capital (VC) investments take up most of the investments in fintech in Asia Pacific. The value of fintech VC investments in the Asia Pacific region in 2020 paled in comparison to 2018 investments due to the massive Ant Financial Series C funding round of 14 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. The number of VC investments in fintech in Asia Pacific also decreased in 2020.
