Almost 22 percent of consumers reported an increase in expenditures on food and beverage purchased at supermarkets and foodservices during the coronavirus pandemic in Japan, as revealed in a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in February 2021. In contrast, only 4.4 percent of respondents spent more money on eating out since the start of the pandemic.
