The European Super League was a planned soccer competition to be contested among a select group of 20 clubs from across the European domestic leagues. The competition was proposed as a rival to the UEFA Champions League and would have comprised 15 "Founding Clubs" alongside five clubs who would have qualified for the tournament based on performance. The initial press release from The Super League stated that the Founding Clubs would receive 3.5 billion euros to "support their infrastructure investment plans and to offset the impact of the COVID pandemic".
