The U.S. congressional record has seen a drastic increase of mentions of artificial intelligence (AI) since 2017: between 2019 and 2020, AI-specific keywords appeared 486 times in legislation (passed or introduced), reports published by congressional committees, and congressional research service reports in the U.S. congress. It appears that the U.S. congress is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of AI and related technologies.
