In 2023, there were almost 35,000 applications allocated to a judicial formation at the European Court of Human Rights, Turkey having the largest number of applications, 8,300, followed by Romania, with 2,900 applications. Türkiye and Russia had the largest number of pending cases at the Court. Among all cases from 2023, one of the most common violations of human rights encountered by the ECHR were breaches of article 6 of the Human Rights Act, which protects people's right to a fair trial and public hearing.
