In 2023, the government expenditure in Italy amounted to 1.14 trillion euros, 54 percent of the country's GDP. Social protection accounted for the highest spending, with almost 500 billion euros, ahead of general public services and healthcare. On the contrary, the executive allocated the least amount of financial resources to environmental protection and culture.
