YoY change in global container transport volumes 2020-2021
The first half of 2020 saw a dip in the volumes of containers shipped worldwide, which can be attributed to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the second half of 2020, the container shipping industry started recovering from the pandemic with the volumes of transported containers increasing. While this trend continued in the first months of 2021 as well, certain events, such as the blockage of the Suez Canal in March 2021 and the closure of the Yantian Port in May 2021, slowed the growth in transported volumes.
