Tanzania's hotel industry showed signs of recovery in December 2020. That month, nearly 137 thousand bed nights were occupied in the country's hotels, increasing from roughly 100 thousand in the previous month. The number was still lower in comparison to December 2019. However, it improved significantly compared to the second quarter of 2020, when the number of bed nights occupied reached the lowest level, at 29.8 thousand, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
According to the source, the sample survey covers all hotels on Tanzania Mainland with 30 or more employees. The source adds:
"Systematically sampled hotels with 29 employees or less. Provisional estimates are made for the hotels not responding".
Bed occupancy rate is expressed as the percentage of the total number of beds utilized over the total number of beds
available.
