Coal power production in the U.S. by utility 2023
Duke Energy Carolinas is the electric utility generating the greatest amount of coal power in the United States. In 2023, the utility which provides services in the East of the country produced 26 terawatt-hours of coal-fired electricity. It is also the fourth largest U.S. utility using coal not committed to retire by 2030, with 21.8 terawatt-hours worth of coal power expected to remain.
