There were over 8,316 individual wildfires in California in 2024, making it by far the U.S. state seeing the highest number of wildfires that year. This resulted in nearly 1.08 million acres burned due to wildfires in the southern state. Texas ranked second, recording a total of 4,967 wildfires throughout 2024.
